After thanking a wide variety of people including her fellow nominees, her parents, and her boyfriend/”favorite painter” Eric White, Boyhoodstar and newly-anointed best supporting actress Oscar winner Patricia Arquette made a poignant rally cry for gender equality:
“TO EVERY WOMAN WHO GAVE BIRTH, TO EVERY TAXPAYER AND CITIZEN OF THIS NATION, WE HAVE FOUGHT FOR EVERYBODY ELSE’S EQUAL RIGHTS. IT’S OUR TIME TO HAVE WAGE EQUALITY ONCE AND FOR ALL, AND EQUAL RIGHTS FOR WOMEN IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”
It might have been short and pithy but it was a sentiment that resonated with the women in the audience. And with that, the mother of two dropped the proverbial mic, waltzed off the stage, and left Meryl Streep and J.Lo to pick up the glistening bawse lady pieces.
